Sinking of the S.S.Friesland

On 27 October, squally weather, choppy sea, wind North 5, visibility 8 to 10 miles. At about 11 a.m. an aircraft was observed coming from an easterly direction at about 100 metres altitude. The aircraft flew across the convoy but did not attack. Approaching the coast the aircraft started to climb and came in the opposite direction straight at the convoy. This time it dropped bombs, which fell in the middle of the convoy but did no damage.
