My wife and I come to Canada every other year to visit our children. Thus, we have gained many friends in Canada as well. Mostly older people who belong to the same church as our children’s families. The only exception is Klaas Pot. He belongs to a Black Stockings Church…yep, they have those in Canada too! When Dutch people emigrate they take the Reformed, the Reformed, The Roman Catholic, The Liberalised, The Christian Reformed and the Black Stocking Church with them. Maybe some other Dutch denominations, but I am not aware of them. Then there are bunches of unchurched folks who only meet their former patriots in Dutch-Canadian Clubs. By the way, those clubs are also frequented by members of the above-mentioned groups who no longer adhere to the dance, card and drinking taboos of yesteryear.
