Sunday, March 14, Woldendorp.
Dear brother and sister,
You must have been waiting for a letter. We are all reasonably well, except me and my leg. It just won’t get better. Thursday the doctor was here and then he thought that the swelling was down. He had not been here in 11 days. He would have cut it open to drain the fluid, but if it will dissolve without that, it’s better. I’m wearing long elastic bandages. Below the knee it has to be so tight, that my foot turns blue, three times a day for 20 minutes. The leg is very weak; I can’t stand on it. I have a crutch, and Jan and Ena have to support me.
For a while I was taking two litres of milk and 2 eggs, but I can’t take that. I got terrible diarrhoea; it was so bad that I didn’t sleep for five nights; then the doctor said that I should drink less milk.
Father and Ena have gone to church. The boys are in bed. Marie is back in school. Our chickens are laying really well. The children and Ffather each get an egg a day and we buy six litres of milk every day. Father and Ena are back. I have to finish. Heartfelt greetings from all of us.
Elizabeth Stuit.
