Tuesday morning, eleven o’clock. Maaike had already hurried up the stairs several times, as Dad kept to his bed. She had left his bedroom door open so she could see him from the landing. She had even cautiously gone further into the bedroom a few times, to make sure Dad was still breathing. You could never know…But his breathing was regular, albeit very light.
