Opa arrived Saturday evening. Maaike had given the house an extra good cleaning on Friday, because that’s what you do when you have visitors. Opa would probably not notice if the carpets had been vacuumed or dusted, but you never knew how meticulous he had become after four years of doing the housework himself. He was tidy on his own though, Maaike had noticed right away. Neatly dressed and his face gleamed. He said he had shaved just before the plane landed…in that little toilet where you could still turn your backs. Maaike took her hat off to him for that….
