Mischief on the Street

As boys wandering the streets of West Terschelling, we also sometimes did things that were not allowed. Before the 1914-1918 war, there were supporters and opponents of the Germans. For example, Hein Bloem was for the Germans and Frand Pie for the British. When the two met at the guardhouse on the harbour or the Wakend Oog, things would get out of hand. One knew it better than the other. And it wasn’t long before there was a whole group of people standing around to hear that cackling, which was kind of interesting.
