Note to Middledom subscribers

I have enjoyed some respite from this solitary task in the face of summer holidays and beach going, and while doing some much needed home renovations during the lovely month of September.

I am also changing tack, somewhat, through the vast expanses of Middledom, by featuring more of my own work. Rest assured, Herman de Jong / dad will be back.

Re-enchanting our lives: The creative arc of redemptive journalism,
celebrating CC's 80th anniversary. Christian Courier / Calvinist Contact was my father's primary medium for many years, and has been publishing bits of my own work since 1977. Of special note is Saturday's panel discussion: “Unlocking the Kist (Trunk)” on Dutch immigration memoirs, three of which have already been brought to light on this website:
