Among the heirlooms that Oma (1899-1984) passed down to us is a collection of Dutch sayings she had written down over the years, as she thought of them.
|
Mina Brouwer is heir to a long tradition of spreuken (proverbs), spreekwoorden (sayings), and gezegden (idioms) in the Netherlands, going back a thousand years.
|
They remain as useful to us now as they were to Mina's generation, if we care to ponder them.
